While MNRE is not a construction-heavy ministry like Railways or Urban Development, it plays a critical enabling role in the infrastructure development of renewable energy projects.
Roles & Responsibilities
1. Development of Renewable Energy Parks
- Facilitates the construction of large-scale solar parks, wind parks, and hybrid energy zones.
- Example: Rewa Ultra Mega Solar Park (Madhya Pradesh), Bhadla Solar Park (Rajasthan).
- Coordinates with state nodal agencies and developers to provide land, evacuation infrastructure, and environmental clearances.
2. Public Infrastructure for Solar Rooftop Systems
- Supports installation and construction of:
- Solar rooftop systems on government buildings, schools, railway stations, PSU offices, etc.
- Net-metering infrastructure and battery storage systems.
- Funds civil structures and solar mounting systems through CFA (Central Financial Assistance).
3. Green Hydrogen & Bioenergy Infrastructure
- Supports infrastructure for:
- Green hydrogen production plants
- Compressed biogas plants
- Waste-to-energy plants
- Works with Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas, and Housing & Urban Affairs for land use and utility connectivity.
4. Off-Grid Renewable Systems in Remote Areas
- Provides funding and technical support for construction of:
- Micro-grid solar units
- Biogas digesters
- Mini hydroelectric stations
- Electrification in tribal and rural hamlets through PM-KUSUM, Saubhagya, etc.
