Geophysical methods are implemented in a wide range of applications ranging from building ground investigations to the inspection of dams and dikes. The combination of geophysical data and geotechnical measurements may greatly improve the quality of buildings under construction in civil engineering.
The sources of hazards in civil engineering disciplines result essentially from undetected near-surface structures, such as cavities and/or inhomogeneities in the foundation geomaterials. Information related to the local soil conditions is vital for risk assessment and mitigation.

With recent advances in ERI technology and software, practitioners are faced with numerous choices in selecting acquisition and inversion parameters, some of which can affect results substantially. Mistakes in field surveys and interpretation are common in ERT surveys.
The proposed webinar includes a review of the resistivity method followed by instrumentation, survey techniques, data processing and interpretation methods. This course covers the ERT method for practicing field surveyors that are currently involved in resistivity surveys as well as in academic research.
Geophysical Methods for Dam Investigations & Health Checks

India occupies third position globally with 5254 large dams in operation and 447 dams under construction. Over 80% of our existing dams are more than 25 years old and many of them may be experiencing distress and require assessment of their condition for their operational performance and safety. Traditionally, dam operators have relied on visual observations for assessing condition of dams. In complex structures like dams, reliance on physical manifestation of underlying internal structural problems can be catastrophic. Geophysical techniques can be used for assessing condition of these structures in non-destructive manner. These techniques have been used very effectively for all types of dams. Even if the dam is not showing any sign of distress, it is advisable to know the health of the dam internal condition.
This webinar is designed to train participants in non-destructive techniques for assessing conditions of Dams.
